This visa category is for people wishing to come to the country to start a business. You may start any type of business, but you must work full time in the management of the business.

If you intend to be a passive investor investing at least EUR 400,000 to EUR 1,400,000. If you intend to send someone else to run your business for you, you may qualify for Sole Representative business status.

If you want to be active investor and personally run your business in the country, required investments will be smaller: EUR 12,000 - to get residence in Czech Republic, EUR 12,000 – for Nicaragua and Paraguay, EUR 15,000 – for Brazil, EUR 27,000 - to get residence in Netherlands, EUR 44,000 – for Germany, from EUR 45,000 to EUR 65,000 – for Belgium, Ireland, Austria, Luxembourg, Italy, Spain, France and Switzerland, EUR 350,000 – for United Kingdom.

Unless you are a national any EU country, you will meet the following requirements:

  • Invest above mentioned funds in a business inside the country. Please note that the amounts are approximate and may vary depending on the country and business plan.
  • Create full time employment for at least 2 local citizens (except Czech Republic and Netherlands business immigration where it is not required).
  • Work solely in the business (except Czech Republic and Netherlands, where it is negotiable)
  • Have sufficient funds to accommodate and maintain yourself until the business is profitable.
  • Have a controlling interest in the business.
  • Take a share of the business’s liabilities.
  • Be implementing a business plan that looks to be thorough and viable.
  • Have registered address inside the country (provided for additional fee).
  • You will need to show that you have a realistic business plan, and sufficient funds to cover living expenses until an income can be derived inside the country.

What do I get

In all acountries you will get long term business visa (usually for a year). In South American countries and Czech Republic you will get passport for foreigners, which can be also used for travelling (all countries provide visa free travelling throughout the EU, Caribbean and to most South American countries, some countries provide visa free travel to Canada and USA).

Family

You may apply for your spouse and children to accompany you as your dependants.

Education

Your children entering the UK as your dependants are entitled to the same free education as British children. You may choose to send your children to a private school if you wish.

Health care

You and your family are eligible to free health care provided by the National Health Service. You are not required to take out private health insurance, although you may choose so to do.

Work

Your spouse is entitled to take up any lawful employment.

Extending Visa

You will initially get a visa valid for a period of 12 months. During this time you must usually make the full investment and create the required 2 jobs (Czech and Netherlands are exceptions).

At the end of this first year, the visa can be extended by applying to the Home Office. The extension application will need to be accompanied by documentation showing the progress that your business has made; as long as the business looks viable, the investment has been made, and the jobs have been created, then the Home Office will normally grant a three-year extension to your visa.

Usually, after a total of 4-5 years in the EU country, or 1-3 years in the South American Countries you may apply for indefinite leave to remain (Permanent Residence). A year after being granted indefinite leave to remain you may apply for naturalisation as a citizen.
